“THE COLLABORATIONS” a celebrate the legendary artistic collaborations among two master graffiti writers from the Bronx, Crash @crashone, and BIO @biotatscru, and a stencil master from Bristol, Nick Walker @nickwalker_art.

As part of the showcase, an uncanny collaboration between stencil and graffiti artists, hailing from two different continents, will unfold before visitor’s very eyes. This is a transcendental artistic experience, with canvases reflecting the evolution of street art as we know it today.

Crash, with his expressive colors and depictions of eyes, Walker’s signature Gentleman Vandal, and BIO’s motif of hearts will leave viewers in awe. These are three generation-changing artists that are ready to tear down artistic boundaries opening on July 21st at Above Second Gallery. />

In March of 2014, I got a call from Nick about possibly collaborating on a mural down on Elizabeth St, LES. So I drove down to have lunch with him and to checked out the site, which was right above a boutique shop called GYM.

It was cool to create something that someone had to try and find; which was not easy considering it was on the rooftop of a small building. I thought about it, then called Bio with Nick’s blessing- to see if he wanted to be in on it. Who knew it was going to be quite a project- each mural was about 50′ to 75′ long and Spring decided to hide, and Winter decided to bless us with a few more days.

But it was such a cool project- with all of us experimenting and truly collaborating with new ideas and colours.

So jump ahead to 2015- I called both Bio and Nick and asked if we could do a few small collaborations to celebrate the murals from the year before. They jumped at the idea, and it took a life of its own. From the moment we started, we all felt that this was a special moment- that these pieces were going to be strong, creative, and fun. We pushed each other and the results speak for themselves… The pieces came to life from the beginning, and we are proud of our accomplishments.

Artist’s Bio

Nick Walker

Working between his hometown of Bristol and New York City, Nick Walker has become one of the world’s leading stencil masters, known for his flat photographic style that combines elements of realism with the natural aesthetic properties of spray paint. Embracing both the precision of stencils and the fluidity of spray paint, Walker’s work meshes conventional graffiti with the crisp and duplicative properties of stencil. His cityscapes and characters, like the bowler-wearing Vandal, have become iconic within the art world, as well as on city walls in New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris and beyond.

Walker rose out of the graffiti movement that hit Bristol in the early 1980s, working with freehanded spray paint for years before experimenting with stencils in the 1990s. With a new found love of the accuracy of stencil, he began to hit the streets harder, dressing inconspicuously in a pinstripe suite and bowler hat in order to paint multiple stencils without attracting attention. This disguise quickly made its way into his work, eventually becoming the beloved Vandal character which has made Walker one of the most recognizable street artists. In 2008. Walker’s career was given a jolt forward, when his Moona Lisa piece sold for ten times its value at Bonhams Auctioneers. He continues to be sought after in galleries, auction houses and commercial projects.

Today, Walker continues to hand cut his stencils, both for the studio and for large-scale wall projects. His work often focuses on inserting characters like the Vandal into complex architectural scenes, while also incorporating an element of humor to address social and political issues.
